Giving your opinion – expressing your attitiude: any topic

Model:

  • I’m absolutely convinced that if you read a litle every day your reading will improve over a period of several months.
  • I’m absolutely convinced that everybody can learn to speak a second language fluently.

aMeaning / synonyms:

  • Meaning is easy – “I strongly believe..”
  • I strongly believe that..” “I am completely convinced that..”

Use / Pattern:

  • Speaking / writing: followed by clause – make sure your clause is correct.
  • I’m absolutely convinced that people who learn English in a country where it is spoken can learn faster.”
    • Note the nouns in bold: they are followed by a relative clause.
    • The main verb in the clause is can learn.
    • This is an important and useful pattern.

      Good. The only wrong thing is that you can’t use “together with” in the last sentence. This phrase is a substitude for “and” when we are describing a chart (and requires a clause) “The chart shows XXXX together with YYYY>” It is not a general substitute. Here “as well as” would be better. If you wanted to be really careful you could note that the subjects are really different (personal and general) – although I think that it what you mean you son’t really say it. To do that is a bit more complicated: “..will benefit personally for ten years, as well as contributing to an overall reduction in energy consumption.” In general, you have to spell out points fully. Nevertheless, good.
