The AWL contains the 570 most frequently used words in academic writing.
Find all entries by selecting the Academic Word List in the Language Skills section in the menu on the left of the page.
One section will be put on the website on Wednesdays, and another on Fridays. There are 30 words in each section.

(3) How to use the list
(1) Check you understand all the words – use a dictionary.
(2) Look for related words: verbs / adjectives / negatives etc.
(2) Try the spelling test: repeat if you make mistakes.
(4) Try to make sentences using the words – ask if necessary: try to make them part of your active vocabulary
