S1A5: How do you usually contact your friends?

(1) IELTS Speaking paper: Part 1 question.

(1) Do not make a speech.

(2) Do make more than one point.

(3) Do not sound as though you are reading a prepared answer.

(4) Look at the person you are speaking to!

(2) Example.

It depends on which friends – with my friends here I usually use my mobile or text – but with friends in other countries – and some of my best friends are abroad at the moment – maybe Facebook, or email – but I NEVER make international calls!

Always reflect on the question – this is more important in part 2 and 3 – but even in part 1 the questions are often so vague that you need to clarify them before giving an answer. You could even say:

Actually, I don’t really have a “usual way” – these days I use so many different ways – mobile, landline, text, Facebook, BBS (I have a Blackberry) MSN – I just use whichever is most convenient at the time.

To do this you need to listen carefully and think about the question – it is a technique you can practise.

(3) You try.

(1) How do you usually contact your friends?

(2) Do you find it easy to keep in contact with friends and family?

Yes it is very easy to keep in contact with friends . Just one click allow us to do that. thanks to the new technology we are grabbing digital content when we meet people. It is the most convenient way to contact people with less stress emotionally and economically. WE feel that we are more connected and secure with our relationships with smart mobile phones laptops. We can share even live situations via internet ,exchange photos and videos

I usually use my mobile to talk with my friends . But when i log in to internet i would love to meet them via skype. It seems to be totally free of charge . And i can see the person who i talk at the same time. That make me more comfortable

Actually, I do not have a “usual way”. When I need contacting my friends, I ‘d love to use mobile phone, text, email,MSN.Then,it depends on what kind of contact. If I have something really important or something special that must get a replay in time, I would like to ring or text them no matter where are they. Last month a friend of mine got married, I have made an international call to express my best wishes. Although, it is very expensive, I think it is worthy. If just chatting with my friends, I love to choose MSN, email. It is convenient, particularly, and free.

Luckily…… I have one very close friend who is living in the same town but we are very busy to visit each other instead we call each other approximately every two days. I have other friends who are at the same workplace, so we have enough time to see and interact with each other there.

OK – “iteract” is not natural – MUCH too formal: “who work in the same place – so we can see each other and have chat there (thoguh not when we’re busy!)”

Try to aim for natural and relaxed.

I normally use telephone and Email to contact my friends. Acturally, I don’t contact them often. I am a very quiet person.
